We’ve got some big news… 🌱 Know Your Team is now Canopy β†’

Exciting: I’m now offering one-on-one leadership coaching.

After working with hundreds of managers, executives, and CEOs over the past almost 10 years, I’m returning to my roots and offering one-on-one leadership coaching.

one one one leadership coaching

I’ll be your leadership coach.

I’m excited to be able to finally say that statement again (after almost 10 years)!

As the CEO of Know Your Team, I’m now offering one-on-one leadership coaching for managers, executives, and CEOs. I used to run my own executive coaching and organizational consulting practice prior to running Know Your Team, and after working with hundreds of managers, executives, and CEOs over the past almost 10 years, I’m thrilled to share that expertise with you directly.

As your leadership coach, I’ll be a source of incisive feedback around potential blindspots (the kind you might not always want to hear about but know you need to hear), counsel for tough-to-crack, don’t-have-any-clue-what-I’m-doing situations, a shiner of light on insights you didn’t glean before, a thought-partner to unpack demoralizing challenges, and a dispenser of frameworks and research for you to continually improve on your own as a leader – even without me.

Ultimately, I’ll help you think for yourself. Over time, you’ll learn to trust your own inner voice, rather than lean on mine. My goal in coaching you is to get to a point where you don’t need me anymore πŸ™‚

If you’re interested in working together, you can apply for one-on-one leadership coaching with me here.

What does leadership coaching with me look like?

We’ll chat twice a month, for an hour during each session. It’ll be over a Zoom call. I’m based in San Francisco, Pacific time, and so we can easily make things work around any time zone differences. In between our sessions, we can swap as many emails as you’d like.

One-on-one leadership coaching with me costs $1,500 per month. I have no required minimums, no retainers. We can start whenever you want, and we can stop whenever you want. Simple. Transparent. That’s how I like to do things.

What’s my leadership coaching approach?

Leadership coaching can take a myriad of forms: It can range from a therapeutic approach to a skills-based approach, from emotional intelligence improvement to path-goal alignment, from a behavioral focus to a situational focus, from extolling “servant leadership” to “transformational leadership.” Oftentimes, it draws from the coach’s own personal experience as a leader and/or operator.

My approach is based on all of these things and none of these things: I’ve found that the most effective leaders are ones who have a vast library of possible scenarios and corresponding frameworks, from which they can pull off the shelf at any moment, examine, alter, adjust, and apply to their own specific situation. As a result, the best leadership coach doesn’t lecture from the pulpit about a single ideology, but rather pulls back the curtain and says, “Here are the range of possible paths. Let’s talk about what makes the most sense for you, given your context and your team, today?”

My role as a coach is to share these frameworks, distill them in a way that is digestible and practical, and share wisdom on how they exactly can be used applied and leveraged to your task at hand. My goal is to impart these frameworks to you – and so have these vantage points internalized within yourself. You’ll build your own library of scenarios and frameworks to pull from and consult at your own will and discretion.

I’m spent my working life studying, creating, refining (and studying again) these frameworks. You can read about many of them here on the Know Your Team blog, and put them into practice yourself with our Know Your Team software. Through leadership coaching, I’m eager to share them with you one-on-one, in a personal, in-depth way.

Why am I offering leadership coaching now?

As I mentioned earlier, before becoming the CEO of Know Your Team, I used to run an executive coaching and organizational consulting practice about 8 or years ago. (In fact, the founders of Basecamp were my first consulting clients!)

I transitioned from running a consulting practice to running a software company because I’ve always wanted to help as many people I can. Today, with Know Your Team, our software helps over 15,000 people in over 25 countries every single day become better leaders.

During this time, I’ve worked with hundreds of managers, executives, and CEOs, coaching folks both formally and informally. In addition, I’ve spent my working life this past almost 10 years researching, writing and speaking on how to become a better leader. I’ve been published in Harvard Business Review, Business Insider, CNBC, Inc, Fortune, among others. I speak on how to create more open, honest work environments, and run workshops for executive teams and organizations internationally.

But, one-on-one coaching, more formally, was always tugging at me.

Some of you may know this story. Some of you may not. I started down this path of helping managers become better leaders almost ten years ago because I had a leader who wasn’t so great. In fact, his leadership affected my life so negatively, that I thought, “I’ve got to do something about this. I’ve got to help leaders become better.”

I was motivated to get back into one-on-one coaching to more closely fulfill this aspiration of mine, to better deliver on the promise of helping managers, and to return to my roots and help leaders on an individual basis. I’m still running Know Your Team, a software company that provides the essential tools for managers to become better. But one-on-one leadership coaching allows me to impact the managers we’re helping on the deepest level.

I’m ecstatic about it.

Should I coach you?

If what I wrote here resonated with you, we might be a good fit for one another. If you’re a first-time manager who is feeling overwhelmed, if you’re an executive who feels like they need to “level up” in their role, if you’re a founder or CEO who is worried about your blindspots or plateauing – I’d love to lend a hand.

Let’s jump on the phone, do an introductory call, and see where things go from there.

I look forward to speaking with you β€“ and perhaps, even working together!
